Palawan
It's been almost a week since we stayed there. It wasn't what I expected it to be - Boracay, with its white sand beaches and great nightlife. Our vacation in Palawan was something else. If only you were with me, Joanna, I would've really enjoyed. :p I missed you so much.
FRIDAY We arrived at Puerto Prinsesa Airport at around 10:00. We were flying Cebu Pacific. Our shuttle arrived a few minutes later; it was great that we were the only ones riding the Hi-Ace. We stayed at Hotel Fleuris as part of the package we availed of. The place was excellent compared to the other inns and hotels in Puerto Prinsesa. My Kuya and I stayed in one room, while my Mom and Dad along with Jessica and Jeremy stayed at the other. We ate lunch at "The Coffee Shop" near the lobby. The food was okay except it doesn't make you full.
The city tour which was included in the package was scheduled on that day. After lunch, we rested a bit, and went downstairs to meet the tour guide. We rode another Hi-Ace and started the tour. Our first destination was the Butterfly Farm. It was funny listening to guy speaking in the introductory video - 'batterfly', 'antenni', and other words spoken with a nasal accent. There were a lot of butterflies, and I covered my head the whole time for fear of higads. There were also other animals in display at the farm, like geckos and stag beetles. What I found quite amusing were the butterfly pupae being sold at the souvenir shop. They were supposed to be taken home and placed somewhere until they hatched in about 4 days.We didn't buy though. I was afraid that Jose might play with it, or even eat it. :p
Our next stop was the Crocodile Farm. Here I bought my first souvenir - two heart keychains with 'Palawan' engraved at the front (gift for Joanna! :D). The fossil of the largest crocodile on display at the entrance was amazing. Jeremy was brave enough to hold a 3 foot crocodile for a memorable pic. The highlight of the At the reserve located behind the farm, we saw a variety of animals, like the red jungle fowl, which had an overrated name since it looked exactly like chicken, only smaller. There were also bearcats and ostriches. The highlight of the place was the catwalk above the adult saltwater crocodiles. The monkeys that were staying at the farthest cage were not reachable because of the 'higad webs' surrounding the bridge leading to the monkeys.
Before leaving, I bought a rainstick (gift ulit for Jo! :D).
Iwahig Penal Colony was okay - I bought a cellphone tag and a monitor lizard's (bayawak's) foot keychain. I learned later that buying bayawak feet was discouraged, because the lizards were left to die by hunters. A prison without bars, in my opinion, wouldn't work in places like Manila. The weaving factory was kinda boring; ineexport daw sa CK in New York yung materials nila. Right. :p
Our last stop was Baker's Hill. It was the only amusement park in Puerto Prinsesa, and I enjoyed the food there, especially the revel bars. There were three really cute resident dogs in the park - a really friendly beagle, a yorkshire terrier, and another one which looked like a shaved shih tzu (tama ba spelling?). The terrier was very horny and was trying to do something to the shaved shih tzu. He was setting a bad example. Nevertheless, I took a picture to bring home. :p
That night, we ate at Kalui's (tama ba spelling?) as recommended by my brother. We rode two tricycles going there, and I find it cool that tricycles there have color coding. Well, it makes sense because majority of the vehicles in island are tricycles, along with multicabs and the bargain vehicles from Subic. Everything was seafood, and it was only fitting since it was friday. The food was excellent even though there were no tahong in the menu due to lack of catch.
Joanna and I called each other up and said our iloveyou's and imissyou's before I went to sleep at around 2. :)
SATURDAY This was the highlight of our stay in Palawan. We ate breakfast at around 6:30, took a bath, and met with our new tour guide at the lobby. His name was Omar, and he deserves to be remembered. :p Aside from his funny hirits and 'eco-challenge' look, he seemed to really know everything about Palawan. We rode another Hi-Ace, but this time it was 4WD and it had these cool power curtains. Before going to the place, we first dropped by a minimart to buy supplies. Aside from mineral water, I bought myself some packs of Coolair and a pink keychain which reminded me of someone (Gift for Joanna! :D) Our trip to the Underground River Heritage Site took around 3 hours, along with three stops we made for picture taking. There were these cool limestone formations which remind me of LOTR. It really got me depressed when I discovered that there were no cellsites for any telecom near the site. :( I wasn't able to text Joanna for a long time... The boat ride to the site took around 20 minutes. We had to wait for almost an hour because of the limited seating capacity of the boats used. It was worth it. :) The rock formations and the size of the cave was breathtaking. The names given to the rock formations which stood out were really funny. Di ko malilimutan yung giant mushroom na 'lalaki' hahaha. :p
We ate lunch at the entrance of the site, near the beach. Omar's cooking was great, more satisfying than the food at The Coffee Shop. After eating, we rested a while, and we watched some monitor lizards fight over food. The "Chairman" (The alpha male monkey residing in the trees in the area) was also like the yorkshire terrier the day before. :p Afterwards, we went back to the hotel, taking another 3 hours. During the trip, I abused the power curtains, making them slide to Jeremy's face a few times when he rests his head on the windshield.
We went to mass at the church, and it was really hot inside. The participants in the mass speak fluently. Everyone in Palawan knows how to speak english. It was kinda like Manila, since their most common form of communication is also Tagalog. After the mass, we went straight to Kinabooch, another famous restaurant in Puerto Prinsesa. The food was really good, but I still prefer Kalui's because of the lack of cleanliness of the utensils in Kinabooch. :p
My Kuya and my Dad had a massage from a guy who had a title of 'LMT' or Licensed Massage Therapist. Meron palang ganun. :p
Before sleeping, I called up Joanna, told her how much i missed her and love her, and said goodnight. :)
SUNDAY We ate breakfast again at The Coffee Shop, then after taking a bath, we headed outside the lobby to meet with Omar again. We first picked up two Germans at the Badjao Inn. They were joining us in the tour. At the docks, we rented 4 sets of snorkeling equipment for later use. The boatride to the first island took around 40 minutes. The sound of the boat's motor got stuck in my head after a while.
Snake Island was given its name because of its shape. At the island, we did some snorkeling. The two boatmen taught us how to do it, and they guided us as we watched hundreds of fishes swim around. Nagulat nga ako nung sabi nila talakitok lang yun. :p There was this one fish which was really ugly, it had really big eyes. Ang pangit. We also fed the fish. We swam around for about 40 minutes, then ate lunch. We conversed with the Germans, and it was weird when I understood what they were saying. Omar's cooking was excellent, and his stories about Palawan were really interesting. During the boatride to the next island, I only realized then that we swam in about 30 ft of water about an hour ago. Hahaha. Buti nalang may life vest. At Starfish Island, we did some snorkeling again, and I picked up some sand dollars and a few nice shells at a sandbar beside the island. Nagpaitim rin ako konti. :p
We went back to Puerto Prinsesa and bought ourselves some souvenirs. I got Joanna an orange necklace. :)
That night, we ate at The Coffee Shop for dinner, and I actually appreciate their 'just enough' servings. :) At least hindi ako tataba. :p
Before sleeping that night, I fixed my things and texted Joanna goodnight, i love you and i miss you. ;) Hahaha. :D
MONDAY We had our last breakfast at The Coffee Shop, and rode the hotel shuttle to the airport. Our flight got delayed by 30 mins, and I got pissed off because I really wanted to go home and go out with Joanna. :o It was fun watching some guys accidentally go to the ladies' room because of the bad positioning of the two CRs.
Joanna and I went out that afternoon, and we enjoyed like we always do when we're together. :D I love you Joanna! :)
